I swear this game is going to be bigger than FF7.

Do you mean it's launch will be greater than FFVII or that its lasting impact will be greater than FFVII? The launch most definitely will be greater but I don't think it's lasting impact would be greater than FFVII. If FFVII was remade right now, you better believe a lot of people would pick it up. If it released on the same day as FFXIII, it wouldn't surprise that a remake of a 10 year old game surpassed a new entry in the series in sales.

The trailer was awesome, the music and everything with the scenes was amazing and breath-taking. Shame that we will have an english vocal for the intro, but Leona Lewis is great and maybe we can unlock the Japanese vocal some how. Forget the doubts I had about the music, if Masashi Hamazu is working on this then I know there's an epic score to be had.

Man, I haven't been this excited for a game in ages...Final Fantasy XIII is going to rock so hard

^ Agreed that Final Fantasy XIII will rock hard. In fact, I've already pre-ordered it. I am sooo glad they're releasing it earlier than planned. I would have totally waited for the originally planned June 2010 release, but an earlier one is even better! The trailer was amazing. I almost sniffled at some parts because they were rather touching. And I really really like the Japanese voice actors. I will have a hard time adjusting to the English ones. ><;

But I'm not sure if the hypothetical release of FFVII would 'jeopardize' FFXIII's. You must realize that only the older gamers who have played FF7 (like you and I) will be all over it. I'm only talking about here in the United States. In Japan, I have no doubt that a remake would go off the charts in sales. Gamers there are ridiculously hard core. The gamers of the new generation (talking United States again) can't see the hype about the game. You and I only view it as such an epic piece because it broke barriers of its generation. And we were more or less around for that generation.

If we look at it now in a totally unbiased way, you'll see that FF7 isn't as great anymore. It was absolutely amazing when it came out because, like I said, it broke barriers. It connected with players on an emotional level that was almost unheard of (almost because I still think FF6 is THE best). Right now, in comparison to so many other games which also broke barriers of their generation, FF7 is just another game. And I feel like a remake would ruin that nostalgia. I'd be somewhat uncomfortable controlling a non-lego-feeling Cloud! And god forbid if Cloud ever spoke! I'd fall out of my seat!

I mean, if a remake DID come out, there's no doubt that I'd get it, but with the upgraded graphics, added voice acting, cut scenes, etc., it wouldn't feel like FF7 to me anymore. Instead, it would feel more like... FFVII-2, a completely new game.

Well Nomura said he's not remaking FFVII anytime soon, so maybe until the PS4?

Anyways, FFXIII is out in Japan. Reviews are pretty good professional wise but consumer wise many are ragging on the fact that the game is extremely linear, has no towns , and virtually no exploration. What's an RPG game with exploration or any of these elements...? How does everyone else feel about this. The story is still solid, the music is decent (Masashi Hamazu ofc) and battle system is one of the best in the series. The level up system is similiar to FFX's Sphere Grid, which I loved. The game is supposed to be 60 hours long and that only accounts for the story, the small sidequests it does have probably might take you 3 or 4 hours max sad.gif. Any thoughts on this? I'm still getting the game either way though smile.gif.

I was severely disappointed after learning of all those things taken out. A week or two ago, I had heard the news and actually, disappointed didn't even cut it. ;-;

It feels empty without exploration or towns. Final Fantasy has ALWAYS had towns. There is no doubt that the disk could have fit all of those 'extra' things that shouldn't even be considered extra. And there's no mini games! What FF doesn't have a mini game or two?! The fact that there are now no towns also takes away the fun of shopping for armor and weapons. Now, everything is done on the MENU. WTF? We buy/customize our stuff entirely via the menu? That is just...not very RPG-ish.

And there is definitely no doubt in my mind that it was the XBox 360 that held this game back from what it could potentially have been. Fuck MS for not wanting to pay for more than 3 disks. I am crossing my fingers for Versus 13. PLEASE don't go multi-platform on me. *sigh* I'm just not happy with the decisions Squenix has been making.

But yeah, I will still get FF XIII. I am disappointed, that much is obvious. But I am hoping the storyline will make me less angry as I play through it.

^Did you hear anything positive about the story, I heard it was pretty good and from trailers it looks amazing! Hopefully, better than XII's. I agree with the towns thing so much, I mean the game is basically a linear path of battle story battle and that may have been one of the biggest draws of this game. Also, because of the 360 we weren't able to get the Japanese voices and maybe even the Japanese title songs. I like kimi ga iru kara....

It's not a maybe. We aren't getting the Japanese title songs. ;-; I was hoping we'd get the Japanese voices too. *sigh*

As for the story, I've heard great things about it. That's why I'm hoping the story will at least take away some of my dissatisfaction with how much they've stripped from the game.
