Warning: This is mostly a rant!
Alright, I had finished the first series of Kuroshitsuji for a while now. I forget when, but A-1, the producers had announced a season 2, saying it would feature a brand new set of main characters. If you haven't seen the first series, I'll give you some background information. If anyone ever decides to pick up this series, be warned: it's dark. Though to counter balance the darkness, there is plenty of humor in the show as well. I'm not sure how they pulled it off, but they did. The story revolves around a twelve year old boy and his demon butler set in Victorian times. The boy named Ciel has his eyes set on getting revenge for his parents' deaths as well as destroying those who have caused him pain and suffering through the early years of his relatively short life, after his manor and family were set on fire. After going missing for a few years after the great fire--for he was kidnapped and tortured--, he returned to the now restored manor with a demon butler in tow by the name of Sebastian Michaelis. Of course, no one knows Sebastian is a demon. Ciel had formed a contract with the demon. As soon as Sebastian helped him exact his revenge, he would give his soul over to the demon to be devoured. Obviously, at the end... his soul was devoured. No, that's not a spoiler. You knew it would happen from the very beginning. Ciel: A young boy bearing the heavy name of Phantomhive. On the surface, he runs a toy company, the Funtom Company. But in the underworld, he is known as the Queen's Watch Dog. Using the people around him, whom he calls pawns, he solves case after case and strives to erase the Queen's worries. With Sebastian at his side, there is little he cannot accomplish. Sebastian: A demon who is playing the role of butler, though he does the job extremely well. He caters to Ciel's every whim. Though when Ciel does something not befitting of the Phantomhive name, he corrects it. He is a capable being with extraordinary abilities. His reflexes, martial prowess, knowledge, and looks are inhuman. He will do anything he is ordered to and will not hesitate to risk his life to save Ciel's, whom he calls "Young Master". Random Trivia: - Sebastian hates dogs, but he adores cats. - Ciel was the one who had given Sebastian his current name: Sebastian Michaelis. - The name Sebastian had originally belonged to Ciel's deceased dog. ----- Well, the series is over. And all the fans, both disappointed ones as well as excited ones, were waiting for the next series with some trepidation. Some felt the first series ended well, and Ciel's story had come to a close. Others missed the boy and his loyal butler. I belonged in the latter group. After all, they claimed the new main characters would be two new people with a similar contract. And they played it off as if Ciel and Sebastian would never show up again. Even the opening didn't feature them one bit. And when I met the new characters, I was furious! The new human contractor is a fucking brat, a twisted fucking brat! The new butler has a few screws loose too! Why on -earth- would you be tap dancing on a--forget it. Well, halfway through the first episode, Sebastian shows up at the brat's manor door in a coat too large for him and a top hat perched on his perfect hair, his handsome face in shadows. I paused the episode and positively freaked the fuck out. I screamed like a fucking fan girl. With him, he carried a large trunk. I immediately thought, "Dude, that thing could fit a dead body!" ...Lo and behold, it did hold a dead body: Ciel Phantomhive! I have never been so happy about being trolled before! I am amazed at how well the producers and even voice actors managed to keep this to themselves. The voice actors themselves even claimed Ciel and Sebastian would not return. Those guys in the office must be patting themselves on the back for pulling off something like this. With episode two, I was positively squealing at the brand new opening--one completely different from the first episode. It is now obvious Ciel and Sebastian are once again the main characters. I'm assuming the two new people are going to serve as antagonists. -------------------- ![]() |

Sounds like they got you good, in a good way.
Way to satisfy their fans. How can they top that? They've set the bar pretty high if you ask me. They being japanese and all do not favor them either. But I guess they could use a footstool or something in the future. They live in a pretty advanced society after all. |
